Hosting Rooted in Purpose—and Heart
Debe’s hosting journey started during a challenging time: while caring for her husband with dementia. She needed support, but more than that, she needed joy. Hosting travelers gave her both. It wasn’t just about helping with the garden or bins—it was about creating space to hold her husband’s hand, laugh again, and find energy in the presence of kind strangers-turned-family.
Her first guest? Jacob from Denmark. He didn’t just lend a hand—he brought healing. “It was like having the grandson I never knew I had,” she says.

One of Debe’s favorite hosting memories happened during the bushfires and early COVID lockdowns. With 10 guests from all over the globe—Switzerland, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, Argentina—her home became a sanctuary filled with dancing, music, and daily joy. Even her husband was never without a hand to hold.
She’s hosted high-energy helpers, thoughtful artists, and even participated in a cheeky (but respectful) “naked garden photoshoot” in honor of the national day “World Naked Garden Day on the 1st Saturday in May. Her stories are as colorful as the life she’s built with each traveler who crosses her threshold.
